The Validated Practices Initiative (VPI) was established in May 2005 when what is now the Louisiana Department of Education's Division of Educational Improvement and Assistance awarded a contract for specific services to Dr. Paul Mooney of Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge. The VPI's overarching aim has been to assist a broad group of education and community stakeholders known as the Validated Practices Committee in meeting its goal of fostering inclusive schools whose actions improve educational outcomes for all students, and particularly students with disabilities. The Validated Practices Committee is comprised of representatives of four critical stakeholder groups: public schools, family and community agencies, the state department of education, and institutes of higher education.

LSU VPI goals include developing a comprehensive communications system, synthesizing effective instructional practices that promote effective outcomes for students with disabilities, supporting effective professional development, and developing stronger school, family, and community relationships in support of improved student outcomes. The LSU VPI project ends April 30, 2006.
